Steve Kelly, a conservative Republican, is officially announcing his candidacy to represent Montana’s House District 9.
Steve believes in three fundamental principles: solving problems instead of causing them, respecting the people we serve instead of trying to control them, and cutting taxes, cutting regulations, and cutting spending.
Steve has dedicated his entire life to public service, starting as a 4-H President and retiring from a 30-year career in Law Enforcement as a Sheriff’s Captain. His experience, background, and leadership ability make him an ideal candidate to serve as the representative for Montana’s House District 9.
______
______
One of Steve’s top priorities is to help repair the broken and complicated property tax system that is forcing people to sell their homes and making it difficult for parents to raise their kids in Montana. Growing up in a small town where the primary industries were logging and ranching, Steve has a deep understanding of the needs of rural communities. He is committed to improving and protecting Montana’s natural resources, including Flathead Lake.
Steve is dedicated to improving and increasing capacity in Montana’s mental health and prisons, advocating for Veterans, and supporting law enforcement officers. He is passionate about ensuring Montana’s judiciary rules on the law and not political leanings while preventing Montana from becoming a refuge for those who are in the country illegally.
Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management and a Master’s in Management. He also attended the Senior Management Institute for Policing at Boston University and graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy.
After completing high school, Steve got a chance to visit Montana and was ignited by its culture and the state. He pursued a lengthy career in law enforcement in Nevada, but eventually returned to Montana, where he currently resides with his wife, Mary, who is also a retired law enforcement officer.
