On several occasions recently, the nation’s collective press have published articles and video reports of “squatters” taking over people’s homes and setting up residence, often times with local statutes and ordinances in place that allows the squatters to stay in a home for 30 days or more. However, most people in Kalispell, Montana would not believe that something like that could happen in their town.

Sadly, those folks were wrong.

Cain Youngquist is a Kalispell homeowner who worked hard to purchase his home, all while suffering from a moderately severe Closed-head Injury (CHI) that left Youngquist unable to function on the same intellectual level as those around him, which is indicative of someone suffering from CHI.

Youngquist’s problems started when squatters targeted his Kalispell home, and ended with Youngquist facing a 20-year prison sentence for Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Duane Beck has been a caretaker for Cain Youngquist for over 20 years and joined the host of Valley Broadcast News James White recently to break down the incident and highlight the systemic failures that have put a disabled Kalispell homeowner in the crosshairs for defending his home.
